GPS Walk

This was my first internal project, and it's objective was to tie together some of the things that I am keen on.

These included:

  • Use of technology to add to our lives
  • geeky programming
  • user interface design
  • GPS / alternative information gathering and inputs
  • Mobile devices, and getting them used
  • Mapping using google and microsoft maps.

Oh, and I also like to get outside and breath some fresh air occasionally!

The idea that was compelling to me as the way that it captured photos and put them on the route - thus allowing you to walk normally and record your route in a way that makes it useful to anyone else who might download the walk.

In reality, this project is pretty much retired. It was ceated in mid 2006 when no-one had proper data connectivity on their phones, in fact no-one really had a smart phone apart from me and a couple of geeky friends (it seemed!). The IPhone was a long way off.  This meant that the target audience was a small percentage of a small percentage.

As a project, it's got me work - chances to apply GPS and mobile technologies, so it was not a waste of time.

You can still see it at http://www.gpswalk.co.uk if you're interested.
